Yamaha FG700S Price- Price and Quality Review

I’ve been a musician for many years and like most guitar players, I love guitars.  A friend said his son wanted to start taking lessons and could I advise him on a good beginner guitar.  I found that the Yamaha fg700S price and quality were just right.

I knew he didn’t want to spend a lot of money so I started doing some research and I found what I think is a great guitar and learned a few things along the way.

There is much more than meets the eye when looking for a guitar.  My research led me to the Yamaha fg700S.

What to Look for When Buying a Guitar

In making any type of purchase there are a few important things to keep in mind when buying a guitar.  A few of these are:

  • ·       What is the style of music you want to play?
  • ·       Are you a beginner or an experienced guitarist?
  • ·       How is the quality of the tone?
  • ·       How is the action?
  • ·       Is the neck straight?
  • ·       How much are you willing to spend?
The Yamaha fg700S price is very good but don’t buy on price alone.  I’m going to explain each of the above as it relates to the Yamaha fg700S.

Music Style?

This is an acoustic guitar so if you’re planning on rocking out right away, this might not be the best choice.  Personally I feel this guitar is so easy to play it really doesn’t matter what type of music you like.  This is a great guitar to learn on and to keep forever.  Generally however, acoustic guitars are most often used in country, bluegrass, classical and folk music.  However, you do see many bands including rock bands using the acoustic.

Beginner or Experienced Guitarist

If you’re a beginning guitarist I would highly recommend the Yamaha as the thin neck and nylon strings make it so easy to reach all the chords.  It’s also gentle on fingers that aren’t used to pushing down on thin guitar strings.

Tone Quality

How does the guitar sound when you strum it?  It should sound deep and bright.  Dull and tinny aren’t good.  The guitar should also sound clear and loud without having to bang the strings.  I loved the sound of the Yamaha fg700S when I played it.

How is the action?

The action refers to how low or high the strings are set on the frets of the guitar.  If they’re too low the strings will buzz and this is really frustrating when you’re just starting out.  When the strings are set up too high you’ll have to work too hard to press them down and make clear chords.

Is the neck straight?

Look up the neck from the base of the guitar to the tuning section.  If you look along the edge it should be a straight line.  If it isn’t straight, the guitar will sound different at different points of the neck and basically be out of tune.

How much to spend?

If you only have $200 to spend then don’t waste time looking at more expensive models.  I would say you can always upgrade later except the Yamaha is a great guitar and one you’ll never put away.  The Yamaha fg700 price is great for not only a beginning guitar but for any guitar of this quality.

Yamaha fg700S Features and Benefits

  • ·       Solid Sitka spruce top:  Sitka Spruce grows in a coastal "pocket" from Northern California to Alaska. This dense, straight-grained wood has the highest strength and elasticity ratio among available tonewoods, an attribute that makes it an ideal material for soundboards.

  • ·       Rosewood fingerboard:  Besides being a pretty wood, rosewood has tonal characteristics that include a strong bass response and long sustain. It remains the most popular tonewood used in the making of high-quality acoustic guitars.

  • ·       Die cast tuner:  die-cast tuners are the individual parts formed from molten metal, injected into a precision machined die, and allowed to partially cool before being ejected from the molding mechanism.  The benefit is a tuner that works smoothly, yet is strong and will keep the guitar in tune.

  • ·       Tortoise Pickguard and High Gloss Finish:  The pickguard protects the body of the guitar from being scratched and tortoise gives it a balanced, rich look.  The high gloss finish make the guitar shine and especially under bright lights.

How Much Should You Expect to Pay?

This Yamaha fg700S price is generally around $250 but you shouldn’t pay more than $225.  The cheapest I’ve seen it is on Amazon who has it for sale now for under $200 and that includes shipping.

Does it Include a Warranty?

Yes the Yamaha fg700S has a limited lifetime warranty.
